Artist in Residence & exhibition - Victoria Lucas

August - September 2018

In this new body of site-responsive work, Victoria Lucas presents installations that combine a variety of media, including video, sculpture and photography. Reclaiming an island of physical space as a form of playful protest, the exhibition investigates culturally engrained representations of femininity using local sites and stories as a backdrop.

Lucas (b.1982) is a Sheffield based artist, Senior Lecturer of Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire and current PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University. Recent projects restructure frameworks that define female experience against socially engrained stereotypes, often incorporating cinematic, literary and folklorist references to illustrate a radical shift in how femininity and power is generated and perceived.
